Le gouvernement tchadien a appel\u00e9 mardi la communaut\u00e9 internationale \u00e0 intensifier son soutien dans la lutte anti-terroriste au Sahel, au lendemain d’une attaque du groupe Boko Haram qui a tu\u00e9 une quarantaine de soldats dans la r\u00e9gion du lac Tchad (ouest).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cet assaut men\u00e9 dans la nuit de dimanche \u00e0 lundi, contre une base militaire situ\u00e9e sur l’\u00eele de Barkaram, \u00ab\u00a0a co\u00fbt\u00e9 la vie \u00e0 une quarantaine de vaillants soldats tchadiens\u00a0\u00bb, selon le dernier communiqu\u00e9 officiel, publi\u00e9 mardi par le porte-parole du gouvernement Abderaman Koulamallah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’attaque a \u00e9galement fait une vingtaine de bless\u00e9s, selon des sources militaires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab\u00a0Le gouvernement appelle la communaut\u00e9 internationale \u00e0 intensifier son soutien et \u00e0 renforcer l’aide dans la lutte contre le terrorisme en particulier dans la r\u00e9gion du Sahel et du bassin du Lac Tchad\u00a0\u00bb, affirme le communiqu\u00e9 officiel. \u00ab\u00a0Une action collective et d\u00e9termin\u00e9e est indispensable pour \u00e9radiquer ce mal qui menace la stabilit\u00e9 et le d\u00e9veloppement de toute la r\u00e9gion\u00a0\u00bb, poursuit le texte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le pr\u00e9sident Mahamat Idriss D\u00e9by Itno a donn\u00e9 lundi le coup d’envoi d’une contre-offensive et \u00ab\u00a0les forces de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 sont actuellement en pleine poursuite des assaillants\u00a0\u00bb, selon le communiqu\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De son c\u00f4t\u00e9, l’ambassade de France au Tchad a assur\u00e9 mardi dans une publication sur Facebook que \u00ab\u00a0la France se tient aux c\u00f4t\u00e9 du Tchad dans la lutte contre le terrorisme\u00a0\u00bb, en adressant ses condol\u00e9ances aux autorit\u00e9s et aux familles des soldats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Tchad, pays pauvre et enclav\u00e9 de 18 millions d’habitants est le dernier pays du Sahel \u00e0 h\u00e9berger des soldats fran\u00e7ais. Mais entre Centrafrique, Soudan, Libye et Niger, il se voit d\u00e9sormais encercl\u00e9 par des pays accueillant, \u00e0 divers titres, des forces paramilitaires russes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le pr\u00e9sident Deby s’est rapproch\u00e9 de Moscou ces derniers mois, mais les \u00e9changes entre les deux pays sur un possible renforcement de leur coop\u00e9ration \u00e9conomique et militaire ne se sont pas encore concr\u00e9tis\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les soldats tchadiens sont fr\u00e9quemment cibl\u00e9s par les attaques de Boko Haram dans la r\u00e9gion du Lac Tchad, vaste \u00e9tendue d’eau et de mar\u00e9cage parsem\u00e9e d’\u00eelots qui abrite les combattants du groupe jihadiste ou de sa branche dissidente, l’Etat Islamique en Afrique de l’Ouest (Iswap, selon l’acronyme en anglais).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’insurrection de Boko Haram est apparue en 2009 au Nigeria, o\u00f9 elle a fait depuis quelque 40.000 morts et plus de deux millions de d\u00e9plac\u00e9s, avant de se propager dans les pays frontaliers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En mars 2020, le groupe avait men\u00e9 une offensive sanglante sur une autre base militaire de la r\u00e9gion du lac Tchad, faisant une centaine morts, les plus lourdes pertes jamais enregistr\u00e9es par l’arm\u00e9e tchadienne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comme \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque, trois jours de deuil national ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cr\u00e9t\u00e9s \u00e0 partir de mardi, avec drapeaux en berne et interdiction des activit\u00e9s \u00e0 caract\u00e8re festif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
